Feral cat colonies are part of the urban environment in many towns. Although they may seem "natural", when left uncontrolled they can grow rapidly and create problems for animal welfare, public health and coexistence.
Sterilisation is the most effective tool for keeping these colonies in balance. It reduces uncontrolled reproduction, improves the health of the cats and decreases behaviours associated with mating season such as fighting, marking and dangerous roaming.
Programmes based on the TNR method (Trap, Neuter and Return) have proven to be the most ethical and effective way to manage these populations without resorting to aggressive measures.
